Shakespeare in the Streets

Written by DeAsia Paige
Directed by Kathryn Bentley
Sep 26 — Sep 28, 2025
House of Miles East St. Louis

A world-premiere play about the historic city of champions.

Shakespeare in the Streets is a theatrical experience that combines the history of one St. Louis community with a Shakespeare play. Previously explored histories include Old North, Maplewood, the Grove, Cherokee Street, The Ville and Bevo Mill.

This year’s project honors the historic East St. Louis neighborhood. Known as the City of Champions, it’s home to Olympic Gold Medalist Jackie Joyner-Kerse, jazz legend Miles Davis, global dance phenomenon Katherine Dunham and many more artists, poets, and athletes.

The new play will be inspired by stories of people of ESTL, and performed on stage in the streets in September 2025.
