Play Summaries
Pine Bluff, AR
By Zachariah Ezer
There’s something weird going on in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. It might be the scams County Assessor Jasmine Bottoms is running to keep her impoverished city afloat. It might also be out-of-town investor Jerry Wilson buying up every piece of land he can get his hands on for motives unknown. But it really might be the atomic conspiracy that threatens to swallow Jefferson County whole. You are cordially invited to join the Pine Bluff Players for a theatrical reanimation of The 2025 Pine Bluff Nuclear Incident, as told through the documents (the secret emails, the corrupt ordinances, and the radical manifestos) that led to this strange footnote in American history.
Another Country
Written by Catherine Yu
An arrival in a Western country for two political dissidents is not all that it seems. A late night debate into homeland, inescapable borders, and one’s duty in an authoritarian regime becomes a battle over the haunting of the past and optimism for the future. What does it mean to leave a country and what do you leave behind?
Reining Women
Written by Pamela Morgan
Told documentary-style at the National Hobby Horse Championship, Reining Women follows four women whose lives change after a joke goes too far. When Lauren’s daughter shares a hobby horse video, Lauren sends it to her sister, Mel, her new friend, Alex, and Mel’s childhood best friend, Shelley. Mel posts a nasty comment, setting off a chain of events that lead straight to the championship. As the cameras roll, Lauren learns to finally put herself first, Mel begins to take responsibility for the mess she causes, Shelley imagines a life that belongs to her, and Alex confronts a loss from her childhood that she never faced. What begins as a prank becomes a celebration of friendship, courage, and unbridled joy.
