Shakespeare in the Zoos: Romeo & Zooliet

The St. Louis Shakespeare Festival is now accepting video auditions from equity and non-equity members for the 2025 Shakespeare in the Zoos production, Romeo & Zooliet, written by Jennifer Joan Thompson, directed by Tom Ridgely, and adapted from the award-winning graphic novel The Stratford Zoo Midnight Revue Presents Romeo and Juliet by Ian Lendler

 
VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON AUDITIONS

Virtual submissions open now. In-person auditions and callbacks for video submissions will be held on May 27 at 3333 Washington Ave St. Louis, MO 63103 from 9 am to 5pm. Please note, we will break for lunch from 12pm to 1pm.

Please note, housing is not included in the actor contract. 

  • Rehearsals begins: June 10, 2025 
  • Performances: July 8 – August 17 (Every evening, excluding Mondays)
ACTOR BREAKDOWN
  • MERCUTIO: A red panda. Romeo’s ride or die. A jovial spirit, a loyal friend, up for
    anything. Especially bamboo.
  • TYBALT: Juliet’s cousin. Fearsome, regal, king of the jungle. He is a tiger, and he wants
    you to know it.
  • PRINCE ESCALUS: The law-and-order ruler of Zoorona. Masterful with a ball trick. Sea
    lion.
  • ROMEO: Our hero. A curious, playful, and good-natured prairie dog. Longing for
    connection.
  • PARIS: An unsuitable suitor. Looking for a way to improve his position. Does he…feel a
    little something for Lady Cap? Maybe. A Crocodile. Cold hands.
  • FRIAR LAURENCE: A wise old owl, who just wants to help two crazy kids out.
  • FRIAR JOHN: In no hurry. Tortoise.
  • VETERINARIAN: A mad scientist. Orangutan.
AUDITION PROCESS

  1. Please record yourself/prepare (1) a brief Shakespeare or other classical monologue 
  2. Upload to YouTube and send a link with your resume and headshot
